Been Around the Block
DTT BOTM WINNER
this is a custom mono-shock (off R6) cafe racer. the theme was to capture a modern style bike that was designs in the bikes original era. the main modifications are the swing arm and the back end of the bike. yes the shock mount is boxed in and the metal is thick enough. here are a few pics
i found this web site through locoleon when he posted on 650rider, im already enjoying your forum i haven't look around yet but the layout has to be one of my favorites so far.

i just sent everything off to the powder coater today so hopefully you will be seeing some painted pictures here soon.

Welcome to DTT. What a way to make an entrance! That thing is going to be sick. Just love it. You are after my heart for sure. Please keep us updated

Wow! That's amazing! 8)

Lookin' good, keep us informed! ;D

Whoa, nice work there...those lines look great! Be interesting to see how this goes, be sure to give us a yell with how it handles once you get it on the road. Lookin' ace so far.

Cheers - boingk

Looks pretty cool, feeds shock loads into top tube/steering head, which is a good thing, will vastly improve handling.
Your going to need better forks to go with it ;)
R6 is a linkage' suspension, isn't spring rate a bit high? (don't know stock linkage ratio (3~4:1?) that looks about 1.5~1.7:1?
It looks to me like its a rising ratio?

as for the spring rate im not to sure, i just did it because i look cool as hell and figured i would stick with a yamaha spring. plus this bike probably wont ever see a cross country trip, maybe a track day but doubtful. its nice to know that the design will improve the handling though.

If you find that spring too stout, while replacing with a more suitable piece is best, you can also try an old road racer trick: Grind the outside of the spring enough to lighten the tension to suit. It doesn't take much since all springs act in torsion, maybe 3/32" to start and work from there.
Once you get it dialed in, take it out of the bike and measure it's full unladen length. Stand it on end and add enough weight to squash it down an inch, this'll give you the spring weight numbers you need to replace it with one that's pretty and smooth looking. You can also run them ground this way. Lots of industrial springs are not only end ground but also along the axis for specific tuning. I've got close to 40Kmiles on a set on my autocross car (they dunna have to be pretty)

cool bike....

Anytime you feel like making a 2nd motor, feel free to send one my way - looks awesome and up to snuff with the rest of the bike. I like the hydraulic clutch kit.

Some details on the finish work on the engine would be great.

yea what all do you want to know about the motor? powder coating? oil cooler, the kickstarter cap, hydro clutch?

That hydro clutch is really cool. Well done on that.

The spring rate on that damper is 554lbs.

one thing - you need airflow to cool that rectifier. something to consider.

thank you, and i just mounted it on the outside.

heres a little teaser
