Do you want a red tank or a black one. It will be yurs for the cost of shipping. I think the black one only has a smallish dent and the red one has a bigger dentt. They are both raceable as is.
I have a couple of spare tanks that will go cheap if you have any interest. I also have spare carbs and a couple of radiators.
Have I mentioned that they will go really cheap?
We are selling our house and I need to empty my garage.
That cam chain tensioner would be a big NOPE for me. Too many cracks in the slipper material. When the preces come off and clog up the oil pump screen and the cams jump time so you bend a bunch of valves, you will be wishing you had replaved it.
I still find it to be an interesting reference to a horse in a 400 year old novel that has not been read by very many people in this century. However, rest assured that I find it to be a wonderful name and very appropriate to this project.
Looks really nice. I ran a pair of those rear rims on my CB350 race bike back in the 80's and developed some cracks in the rear rim. I don't know what caused the cracking, but it was only on the rear rim in 2 different places. They were pretty used rims when I laced them up and I have not heard...
I used a different ground cable on the last battery I mounted there. I think I ran it to a motor mount bolt or someplace on the frame. I didn't see a good way to use the stock ground. I just found one in my spare wiring stock. It was probably off a CB350 or FZ600.
I almost always run into the same issue with racebikes. If I have to run the stock airbox, I don't like the idea of running the oil vapors in there and if I am running superbike classes without the stock airbox, the rules state it has to run to a catch can. I usually use a brake fluid can it is...
I did the same with the electronics on the last one I did. With the stripped down race harness it made the packaging pretty nice. For a race bike, it just made sense. Yours is looking good.
Hey Irk,
I am glad to know that you and I are now mates.
I had an interesting conversation with a guy at the Mid-Ohio swap meet that was selling Chinese rims and clip-ons. He lived in China and worked directly with the manufacturers. His take on it is that you can get any quality of product if...
I hadn't realized that this was a competition based solely on how long you have been working on customizing bikes. SInce you have been building customs since the 60's, you have me beat by about 10 years so I would be foolish to make any comments about how you are doing any of these...
The exhaust you have pictured is not the stock exhaust. It is a MAC. There isn't anything wrong with MAC, but they were the cheapest of the 4-1 replacments at the time. All of the stock DOHC 750 exhausts have turned to rust by now. I have a MAC header section on my Seca 550 racebike and it works...
I think with a .002 clearance you will be fine with a normal break in process. For me, that was an easy couple of laps in the first paractice session, run the whole next practice easilly without getting the oil temp too high. After that I just send it.
I agree that you can't have too much oil...
It sure loooks like classic cold seize to me, also.
How much time did that engine have on it?
I would be concerned about a .005" piston clearance unless it is a high mileage or many seasons of racing. I liked to set up my race engines with a tight .0015 clearance with cast pistons and a tight...
