    Found a $300 CB550

I'm going to powder coat the entire frame. I want to do a test assembly to make sure there are no modifications I need to do before I get it powder coated. I did the swing arm first because I don't want install the bearing kit and new shock bushings only to have to remove them for powder...

    Found a $300 CB550

I have been doing a lot of work but it feels like I'm not making much progress when in fact I am. Grunt work never looks impressive whether it's mechanical work, construction, decorating or cooking, but it's what makes everything that comes after look great. I'm still working on the frame and...

The fact that these shops exist.

I just noticed this thread. Is that new old inventory?

    1972 Honda CL450 Scrambler Refurb

I got springs from Race Tech. Getting the correct springs for your weight will make a huge difference. I also added cartridge emulators and preload adjustable fork caps. I also bought Hagon rear shock for my weight and the length I wanted from Bella Course. Your forks look identical to my...

    Found a $300 CB550

I've been busy doing work around the house but still have found time to keep working on this Honda. I've been bouncing around waiting on parts from machinist and powder coater. Since I decided to change this to tracker style, I had to cut off the nasty rear hoop that the previous owner...

    1980 CB750 “Beavertail” Cafe Build

I like the idea of the white board. I have a pile of Motogadget stuff but I'm not that far along yet.

    Painted My First Helmet

I haven't painted one but I did do a Sharpie one and finished it with a 2K clear coat.

I can't take credit for thinking it up but I do know a great idea when I see one and I adopted it.

    Found a $300 CB550

I'm at the point of assembling stuff and now I'm finding all of the odds and ends that I need to complete things. I have the original parts but once you finish the big stuff, you can't put rusty nuts and bolts on it. I've tried to refinish a few but they just don't come out that good...

    1980 CB750 “Beavertail” Cafe Build

I bought my CB550 as a basket case and the guy gave me the motor stand with it. It made everything easy and you can spin the motor upside down which was great because I dropped a screw into the bottom end.

    A bit of ally polishing

They look good. I just finished my side cases, forks, front and rear hubs on my CB550 Build and I know how much work goes into doing that many parts. It's not difficult, just tedious and boring. It's easy to see why so many people are just painting everything black....it's easy. For me, black...

$120. He did a good job. Sandblasted, taped off the threads and didn't miss any spots. They look excellent up close.

    Found a $300 CB550

I had some parts powder coated so I can assemble the front end. I also wanted to see if this powder coat guy does good work before I send him more stuff. Next I will install fork, swingarm and wheels so I can check the lines of the seat mount and check fit everything before I powder coat the frame.

    Found a $300 CB550

I tend to wonder how many of those swaps work. Geometry changes, different lengths and spring rates. I'm not a suspension expert but I can install cartridges and set up modern motorcycles. Unless somebody gave me detailed instructions and exact part numbers to use, I don't think I could figure...

    Found a $300 CB550

On to the forks. Every part is new except for the lower tubes and the damping rods. The brass thingies are Racetech cartridge emulators. They just sit on top of the damping rods and flow oil like modern cartridge forks. The only modification required is to drill a few additional holes in the...

    Found a $300 CB550

I'm finally in to building the forks. There are a lot of companies selling suspension for vintage motorcycles but most are junk. Then there is the problem of 1 size fits all. It takes a little more digging to find companies that offer the correct stuff. Fortunately Racetech is an excellent...

    Found a $300 CB550

I've attacked the things that seemed like they'd be the most difficult. The motor is done, the wheels are polished out and built. I pulled the forks apart to start building. They are so simple compared to the Ohlins cartridges on my MT10. I have to sand and polish the lower tubes but that's...

    Found a $300 CB550

I picked up a second rotor. The existing caliper was nasty so I bought 2 new ones and an extra bracket. I sent my rotors out to Truedisc spoke to the owner. They grind them rather then cut them and claim that it's a much better surface. I'm having them ground from 7 mm to 6. He also drills...

    Found a $300 CB550

I'm finishing up the rear wheel and starting the front. I'm wondering about those tongued washers on the rear sprocket. What is the point of them? Are they some kind of lock washer. Can I put flat washers on with some thread locker?
