    Sumotrack rebuild

Finalized the number plate mounting and make a new license plate mount. The cheap ebay one I had on was made from the softest aluminum I think I've ever dealt with. Bolts wouldn't stay tight, and if they did the aluminum would deform enough to let everything rattle around. The new one is a...

They aren't cheap around here either. I just got lucky. I'd been looking for a frame since I found the engine. Found the engine on offerup, which isn't used much in my area. Just an old guy that was tired of having it in his storage unit after 30+ years. The guy selling the frame wanted it...

650, it'll pair well with the t120r engine I bought for $75 4 years ago. Balance was fine, the issue was with the weight out to the sides the bike didn't want to lean, so turns were a little wonky.

Rode home from the swapmeet with a very akward backpack. Pre oil in frame triumph frame with hardtail. For $100 it was a good deal.

I think most are 270, except KTM who went 285. I wonder if they managed to get engines quieter by having the offset, or if it simplifies the crankcase ventilation. Or is it simply trying to stay relevant in a hot market. I think some people stick to 360* engines for nostalgia or cost, and...

I'd ride a stock one before going through with a rephase. Between cam and ignition it can get spendy, and it goes up even more if you send the crank out to be done.

You can rephase an XS to 277* without a crank pin, the pin is only needed if you want a true 270*. Stock on the XS the pistons move up and down together, on the standard 277 and 270 the pistons are about 90* off from each other, so only 1 stops at TDC or BDC at a time. It's supposed to...

I received a 270* rephase pin for a XS650. I think it'll be used for the one in my shed. I also happen to have a 750 kit sitting on the shelf.

Pipes are coated, packed and installed. Slowly getting closer to getting it back on the road. Next big thing will be wiring.

Sendcutsend is worth using if you need some parts cut. For $30 I got 3 crank trigger wheels and 2 cam trigger wheels shipped. Parts arrived in less than a week and to size.

    PMA conversion.

I recommend a SH775 reg/rec unit. They are spendy new but can be found used for pretty cheap. Polaris used them on a bunch of things so I search ebay for polaris regulator, then look at the pics until I find one that's marked right. Keeps the stator and regulator significantly cooler since it...

New exhaust hanger has been fabricated, pipes are off being coated, and carbs showed up from the UK. Switching to carbs since at some point in the move half way across the country and years of storage the ECU got water in it.

That's why I wanted one. This is an older model, but luckily dynabride still sells all the parts for it. So if I ever need to rebuild the motor I can.

Bought a tool I've wanted for a while. A dynafile, it'll let me do slack belt sanding on smaller tubes. Found it on ebay for $80, which is a good deal since new they are around $700.

    Sumotrack rebuild

Thanks, hopefully I'll have it on the road this summer. Depends on how many setbacks I run into. Went to go to work today and had a flat on my DRZ, and not only did it put a hole in the tire but it punched lots of holes in the tubeless conversion. I wish I could track down who dropped it and...

A little progress. "New" side cover and oil pump are here. Clearanced side cover for the high ratio primary gears. Going to vapor blast it before use. Also finally made the clamps for the exhaust. Used stainless packing strap to make them. Next I need to make the permanent hanger.
